About The Legend

Published in 1820 as part of The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent., Washington Irving’s Legend of Sleepy Hollow drew on local folklore and Revolutionary War history to create one of America’s first great ghost stories. Today, the Hideaway invites visitors to step into that Legend—raising a glass in the shadow of the Headless Horseman.
